HENRY 'HANK' AARON
Hank Aaron was born February 5, 1934 in Mobile, Alabama.
His first taste of professional baseball came whilst he was still at high school, when he began playing for the semi-professional Negro League team, the Mobile Black Bears. In 1952, he left high school and Mobile and joined the fully professional Indianapolis Clowns, another Negro League team, before he was spotted by the Braves to whom he was sold for $10,000. He got his break in the major leagues in 1954 when the Braves regular outfielder broke an ankle whilst sliding into base, and Aaron won the competition to take his place in left field. He hit his first home run on April 23, 1954 and between then and July 20, 1976, would hit a record total of 755. During the course of illustrious career, Aaron set the following records: · Most career home runs - 755. · Most career runs batted in - 2,297. · Most career total bases - 6,856. · Most career extra base hits - 1,477. · The only player to hit at least 30 home runs in 15 seasons and at least 20 home runs in 20 seasons. · He was the first player to reach 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. In addition to the above, he was the last former Negro Leagues player to play in the Major Leagues.
